LWKCMD Welcomes You!
All persons aged 16 or older are invited to become full voting members of the League of Women Voters of Kent County. There are no gender restrictions for membership in LWVKCMD – all are welcome. When you join, you will automatically become a member of LWV at the state and national level, too.
Why Join the League?
Through participation in the League, you will:
- Add your voice to the powerful force of League members at the local, state and national levels
- Contribute valuable service to the community by engaging in advocacy and education to protect every American’s freedom to vote
- Gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics
- Discover new interests, develop new skills and learn about crucial issues in your community
- Make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships with other League members
As an organization, the League of Women Voters adheres to a strict nonpartisan policy. It does not support or oppose any political party or candidate.
The purposes of the League of Women Voters are 1) to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation in government and 2) to act only on public policy issues that have been studied by its membership.
How Much Time Does Participating Require?
It's up to you! We welcome all levels of support of League activities.
Many members choose to support the League only with their annual dues. Your membership alone gives us the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change.
Other members choose to become involved in one or more of the broad spectrum of issues and concerns the League covers. This involvement can range from reading League publications and learning more about relevant topics to actively participating in a group project, joining a committee, helping others register to vote, or listening to a panel of experts at a public education event.
Membership Benefits
When you join the LWVKCMD, you automatically become a member of LWV Maryland and LWV of the United States. You will receive their publications along with the the LWVKCMD e-newsletter, The Voter, which is typically sent out quarterly. You will receive invitations to our programs and special topic meetings. You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice to a powerful force of members at the local, state and national level.
Membership Dues
The recommended dues rate is $75 but you are welcome to choose an amount below that, down to a minimum of $20 per person.
When you join, your membership payment will be shared as follows:
- 20% to the local League
- 47% to the state League
- 33% to the League of Women Voters of the United States
